The Southern California Scale Thunderboat Association Welcomes You To The 2009 World Series of Powerboat Racing presented by "Oh Boy! Oberto". The Bill Muncey Memorial for Scale Unlimited Hydroplane, The Roger Newton Memorial Classic Thunderboat Cup and Crackerbox September 18 - 20, 2009 (race day Saturday the 19th). San Diego Model Yacht Pond, Paradise Point, Vacation Isle, San Diego, CA.

This year we will again feature the new Classic Thunderboat class. Classic Thunderboats are scale appearing round nosed and dropped sponson Thunderboats from the fifties and sixties. They may or may not look identical to Thunderboats that once ran in the Classic era but that doesn't take anything away from their appearance, speed, and excitement from watching these boats race through the turns. They are Gas powered by 26 cc water cooled weed wacker or line trimmer motors designed for marine application. These boats are four to four and one half feet in length and travel between 50 and 55 miles per hour.

In addition to the Classic Thunderboat Class, we have added another popular boat class to the Worlds Series of Powerboat Racing emulating their real counterparts that will be running on Mission Bay. The Crackerbox Class. These boats will be bumping, bouncing and banging their way to the finish line so it should be exciting.

The R/C race site and the full size race boats are located within easy walking distance of each other.

Your race entry fee includes Big Boat General Admission and Cold Pit access for 3 days. SATURDAY only preferred parking pass, R/C race program, and a Saturday lunch (additional lunch tickets available for purchase in advance only through the race entry form).
